On March 14th 2017, the Eastbourne branch hosted the first ever SPS 5-a-side tournament at Priory Lane (home of Eastbourne Borough FC). Nine different teams competed in two groups with the winners and runners up of each group advancing to create the semi-finals and then the final.
There was a trophy and more importantly bragging rights available for the eventual winners along with a bottle of Jack Daniels for the top goal scorer and a £50 voucher for the winner of crossbar challenge!
The tournament over all was a very close affair with some really entertaining matches and a good level of football displayed.
The semi-finals ended up being SGL PH vs SPS Eastbourne and Iconic/JL PH vs Ms Cornford PH.
SPS Eastbourne advanced to the final with a 2-0 victory and met Iconic/JL PH after their 2-1 win.
The final was an extremely close game which ended 0-0 and was decided with penalties. Iconic/JL PH ended up winners after an awful display of penalties from SPS Eastbourne with them only scoring a grand total of 1!
The top goal scorer was Neil (Iconic/JL PH) with 5 goals and the winner of the crossbar challenge was Ollie from SPS Eastbourne.
All in all the night was very successful and will be back by popular demand. A special thanks has to go to Stefan Cousins & John Moors for refereeing along with Upfields PH, Kingfisher PH, SGL PH, KBB PH, Iconic/JL PH, SPS Uckfield and SPS Eastbourne for taking part and making the night possible!
