SPS FC took on a very physical and fluorescent stripped GME team in an 11-a-side football match, hosted by Hailsham Town FC at their home ground of The Beaconsfield.

On arrival both teams were welcomed with what can only be described as a cup final atmosphere! GME took an early lead with a second minute strike from the main man himself Ollie Blunden, SPS FC soon after took total control of the game with the trio of midfield maestro’s Karl Platel, Dale Vinall & Ian Pelling running the show.

The game was progressing well with plenty of penetrating runs and play from all over the park that saw SPS have goal scorers popping up from every angle with 4 lucky and extremely simple finishes from Nick Wright, Paul Hunnisett rolling back the years with a “Yeboah” like absolute belter, a tap in from the showrooms very own Alan Carr doppelganger Joe Weston and Sean Platel, Shaun Everett & Simon Kerr with some flukey mishits shots (I’m sure they were passes) finding the back of the net.

GME finding themselves 9-3 down decided to finally make a game of it! Tired legs and injuries popping up left, right and centre saw GME score 4 goals in quick succession bringing the in-game result to 9-7 making the final 10mins a very squeaky b*m period for the SPS lads. SPS FC stayed disciplined and started getting back on the ball and controlling the play. A dream pass from SPS FC’s central midfield answer to Zidane, Karl Platel finding the feet of Luke Chadwick look-a-like Shaun Everett who then plays yet another beautiful pass and assisting, Sean “Abrakebabra” Platel in scoring the 10th goal of the match which ultimately put a stop to GME’s attacks.

The match saw many brilliant performances including many different goal scorers and players who racked up a few assists, but the games stand out player and who really took the game by the scruff of the neck was Hailsham’s very own Roy Keane wannabe (He will love that comparison, UNITED!) Ian Pelling earning himself MOTM.

The game finished and both teams got a huge group photo together and then made their way into the bar where everyone enjoyed a cold beverage and chat about the game. Then both teams were treated to having the pleasure to witness the man of the match award speech conducted by the “one and only” Kevin Smith which once again as touched on before awarded to Ian Pelling!

“Undefeated”
“Who’s Next?”
“Easy, easy”

Overall and amazing night under the floodlights, onto the next.

Huge thank you to everyone,

Team Manager, Head coach & Team Captain, Karl Platel.
